K-8 Pre-registration for the 26/27 School Year

Learn with Res Novae Academy

Where do we meet:

In Person Classes:

4289 Main St, Pinson, AL 35126

Dear Prospective K–8 Parents,

The elementary and middle school years are where foundations are formed — academically, intellectually, and morally. These are the years when students develop habits of thought that shape the rest of their lives.

At Res Novae Academy, we emphasize conservative and libertarian principles: personal responsibility, limited government, individual liberty, respect for tradition, disciplined thinking, and informed citizenship.

We believe students should understand the foundations of our constitutional republic and recognize that freedom requires both knowledge and responsibility.

Our educational philosophy is built upon a blend of Charlotte Mason and Classical Education.

From Charlotte Mason, we embrace:

  • Living books instead of dry, disposable texts
  • Narration and meaningful discussion
  • Habit formation and character development
  • Nature study and observation
  • Short, focused lessons that cultivate attention and depth

From the Classical model, we emphasize:

  • Strong foundations in grammar and mathematics
  • Logic and structured reasoning
  • Rhetoric and articulate communication
  • Historical literacy rooted in primary sources
  • Clear thinking before opinion formation

In addition, we intentionally cultivate entrepreneurial thinking and skill development. Students are taught to:

  • Identify problems and think in terms of solutions
  • Take initiative
  • Develop personal discipline
  • Communicate ideas clearly
  • Understand value creation and basic economic principles

Entrepreneurship, in our model, is not about starting businesses at a young age. It is about building ownership, initiative, and competence — traits that serve students whether they pursue college, trades, business, or public service.

The result is a hybrid program that values structure without rigidity, depth over busywork, mastery over speed, and responsibility over entitlement. We are a fully accredited private school through WASC, and our K–8 program is intentionally designed to build confident learners who think independently, speak clearly, and act responsibly.

Math

Students focus on skill-building in foundational math concepts during in-person instruction. Each student also receives a tailored at-home math program designed to mirror individual needs and mastery levels.

Language Arts

We emphasize grammar, structured writing, and composition. Students are taught to think clearly, write clearly, and revise their work with discipline.

Science

Astronomy will be the focus for the year. Students explore the structure of the solar system, celestial patterns, space science concepts, and scientific reasoning through observation and discussion.

History & Geography

The year’s focus is U.S. History and U.S. Geography. Students study the development of the nation, civic foundations, regional differences, and geographic influences on historical events.

Literature

Students in Grades 3–8 will read a minimum of four novels throughout the school year. Discussion, narration, and written analysis are emphasized.

Proposed Electives (Wednesday Enrichment Day)

  • Meet the Masters Art Program
  • Physical Education (PE will be provided through YKF Karate center. Res Novae Academy will pay for the Karate program and uniform only on behalf of the student.  Parents are required to independently enroll with the karate studio.

Final elective offerings will be confirmed prior to the school year and will be based on final opt-in participating.

What Is Not Included

Unless specifically noted above, the following are not included:

  • Literature books
  • Home learning materials
  • Testing fees unless expressly included
  • Curriculum not stated as *included*
  • Any items not specifically stated as “included”

Attendance Policy

We admit students who can consistently attend our on-site program. Small group learning requires commitment. Tuition is not dependent upon attendance. The program is structured to continue seamlessly whether a student is present on-site or completing work from home, and tuition is not reduced due to absence or class cancellation.

Testing & Academic Oversight

We use standardized assessments to ensure quality education and to identify learning gaps early.  Testing data is not distributed to anyone other than the parent.  The only purpose is to get an idea of how your child learns best and what skills your child does have and which ones they need to acquire.

All students must complete:

  • MindPrint Assessment (through Homeschool Boss)
    • Required upon enrollment beginning in Grade 3
    • Administered one time per learning level (Grades 3, 6, and 9)
  • Renaissance STAR Assessments (Literacy, Math, Reading)
    • Administered in August and May
    • January testing is recommended but not required

These assessments may be completed at our learning center or at home. Student logins are provided by Res Novae Academy.

Enrollment Process

  1. Complete the pre-registration form.
  2. Participate in two interviews (one phone interview and one in-person meeting). Family interviews begin in February.
  3. Complete enrollment forms and review the Student Handbook.
  4. Apply for student scholarships through the Alabama Choose Act, selecting “Private School” and “Res Novae Academy.”

Admission is selective. We are committed to ensuring alignment between family expectations and program structure.  If this program sounds like it will benefit your student, submit your free pre-registration form today to begin the conversation.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Ludy
