What is The CHOOSE Act?

The Creating Hope and Opportunity for Our Students' Education Act of 2024 (The CHOOSE Act) is administered by the Alabama Department of Revenue (ALDOR).

CHOOSE Act Alabama makes refundable income tax credits called education savings accounts (ESAs) available to support the success of eligible K5-12 students in Alabama.

An ESA can be used to pay for tuition, fees, and other qualified education expenses at approved Education Service Providers (ESPs) in Alabama.

• $7,000 per participating student who is enrolled in a participating school.
• $2,000 per participating student who is participating in a home education program (maximum of $4,000 per family.)
• or the 2026-2027 academic year:
  • The renewal application portal for current participants will open December 15, 2025.
  • The application portal for new families for the 2026-2027 academic year will open January 2, 2026.
  • To be eligible for the 2026-2027 academic year, the student must be in grades K5-12, be a resident of Alabama, and be in a household whose income does not exceed 300% of the federal poverty level for the 2025 tax year.
• To be eligible for the 2027-2028 academic year and beyond, the student must be in grades K5-12 and be a resident of Alabama. There will no longer be a household income requirement for eligibility.

Res Novae Academy is an approved education service provided (ESP) in both funding categories: Participating School and Tutor program.

If you anticipate enrolling in our program, select: "Private School" and then select our school.  

We don't take advantage of your full $7,000 scholarship, and you will have a balance of $2,000 left to use on your student for all other qualifying expenses allowed under the Choose Act after paying for our program.
